Chandrashekhar Mahadev Temple, Kapilash, Dhenkanal

Chandrashekhar Mahadev Temple is a Shiva temple situated in Kapilash. This place is around 20 kilometers away from the Dhenkanal district headquarter.

Way to Kapilash Shiva Templa and Daka Bangala

Kapilash Temple is situated at a height of about 2240 feet from sea level. You can reach hear easily from the Dhenkanal town. This place is around 90 kilometers away from the state capital, Bhubaneswar.

There are two ways to reach the temple. You can climb 1352 steps or could come by road from Barabanki ghati, which is around 8 kilometers.

1352 steps to the Kapilash Shiva Temple

The main temple of Lord Shiva is 60 feet tall. The Jagamohana of the temple is made of wood. Apart from the Shiva temple, there are temples of Devi Parvati, Sri Ganesh, Kartikeya, Lord Vishnu, Sri Ram, Maa Ganga are available there.

Lord Jagannath is worshiped there as Parswa Devata. Apart from Chandrashekhar temple, there is another temple of Shiva as Lord Vishwanath temple is also situated in Kapilash. As per the legends, the Viswanath temple is older than the Kapilash Temple, so this is called Bhuda Linga.

Legends of Kapilash:

This place is called as 2nd Kailash (the place of Lord Shiva). As per mythology, all gods of heaven used to come to this place for their meeting.

Some other legends described that this place is named as per the name of Kapila Muni. Kapilash is derived from two words Kapila and Uasa (living place).
